I usually start getting Christmas fever somewhere around August/September. I think it has something to do with the first smell of fall in the air. This year I'm even more excited because couponing is going to make this time of year even more thrilling! In the past 6 months I've become more excited over finding deals with coupons than I have over the whole Christmas season in the past. I've had friends laugh at me because I jumped with excitement over finding a manufacturers $.50 coupon for an item and a $1.00 Publix coupon for the same item (seriously).
I can't even go to the stores anymore without checking my favorite blogging sites and searching the internet for coupons first. If I can't find coupons for the items or for the store I've been tempted not to even go. I was afraid this hobby would haunt me in one way or another. :)
Most of the deals I run across are cheapest when you buy more than one of the item and sometimes you even have to buy in bulk. A couple of weeks ago I saw a deal on www.commonsensewithmoney.com for really cheap Sorry! and Monopoly games at ToysRus. I wanted Sorry! to keep at the house. I already have a very nice Monopoly (some kind of Anniversary edition), but I HAD to go to ToysRus and get this deal. I ended up walking out of the store with 3 Monopoly games and 3 Sorry! games. I only spent $13.66 total. That ends up being $2.28 per game. Not bad at all and every year Alfa takes donations for the Family Sunshine Center so I justified it by saying I got all 6 for the sale price of 2 and some kid will be happy to have those games for Christmas.
Between my church group talking about how we can reach out to people in the community, couponing and finding sweet deals from websites, like the one mentioned above, I'm paying more attention to things around me and focusing on finding people to reach out to. I'm excited about this Holiday season and look forward to helping others. Do you know of anyone in need?

Two trips to Walgreens 04/22
This afternoon I went to Walgreens. I purchased a bottle of Veet Hair Removal (regularly $6.99) on sale for $3.99. I had a manufacturer coupon for $3.00 off. I paid $.99. I also purchased a box of U by Kotex Regular 50 liners on sale for $3.49 (+ $2.50 Register Rewards). I had a manufacturer coupon for $1.00 off. I paid $2.49. After trying to use my $3 RR I had to buy something cheap so the computer would accept it. I bought a pack of M & M's on sale for $.69. Trip totalled $1.17 before tax, $1.99 after tax. I saved $11.50.
Tonight after Ethan's ball game I had $2.50 RR I wanted to spend at Wags (Walgreens). 12 pack of Cottonelle was on sale for $5.00 (reg $6.99). I had a Wags coupon for $1.00 off, a Manufacturer coupon for $1.00 off and $2.50 RR. Making my 12 rolls of toilet paper $.50. I had to buy ANOTHER bag of M & M's for $.69 in order for the register to accept my purchase with all of my coupons. My trip this time totalled $1.19 before tax, $1.67 after tax. I saved $6.69.
In the future I need to get something more useful than M & M's when I need a "filler" item. But, that's all part of being new at this and a part of the learning process.
I've shared my "coupon stores" with appx 10-12 people now. I hope some of them will jump on board with me and start saving money JUST LIKE ME! This can be a lot of fun.
On a sad note..... I decided to forego the $1.00 ink cartridge refills at Wags today. My printer's having so many issues I've pretty much decided to get a new, cheap printer that works with Windows 7 and actually prints.

Coupon Clipping / Pharmacy Savings
Well, I've stumbled across (what I believe will be) a new hobby for me. I've never cared one way or another about coupons. I always thought it would not be worth the trouble to spend the time cutting up the coupons. On top of waisting the time to cut them out, I assumed I'd never be organized enough to have the coupon with me when I'm in the store buying the product I have a coupon for.
Earlier this week I was at work and saw a co-worker with her coupons out, getting ready to go grocery shopping. I thought to myself, "She'll never save enough money to be worth all of that trouble" but, I started asking her some questions anyway. Thus the excitement began. I don't think most people realize how much money can be saved on products just by spending a little bit of extra time clipping coupons, researching the best place to buy (many websites give you the already researched info) to get the cheapest deal, and going to those places.
Publix is a very expensive grocery store BUT they are awesome when it comes to coupons. They frequently have B1G1 (buy 1, get 1) sales. They double coupons up to $.50 ALL the time. They let you use TWO coupons on B1G1 deals. They accept a Publix coupon AND a manufacturer coupon on ONE item. And they have many more deals that turn your purchases into pennies vs. dollars.
Pharmacies also have AMAZING deals. Each pharmacy has their own program. CVS does ExtraCare Bucks (ECBs). Rite Aid does Single Checks and Walgreens does Rebate Rewards (RR). At CVS the ECBs have to be used in the store. Rite Aid sends you an actual check. I'm not 100% sure what Walgreens does but I think it's different as well.
This afternoon I went to CVS, got an ExtraCare card and picked up their sales paper. They have Dove Shampoo and Conditioner for $4.49 with your card. Extra bucks reward of $4.49. It's like getting it for FREE after extra bucks. I picked up a shampoo and a conditioner. Low and behold there was a coupon for $1.50 off on the Conditioner. I bought the shampoo for $3.37 (after coupon and tax). This put $4.49 on my ExtraCare card. I turned around and used the $4.49 ECBs on the bottle of Conditioner. And if that don't beat all.........When I got the conditioner for FREE (I did have to pay tax $.38) it put ANOTHER $4.49 in ECBs on my card. SO........ I ended up with Shampoo and Conditioner for $3.75 and I have $4.49 on my card to use on my next purchase! Doesn't that sound AMAZING!?!?!?!?! I think so.
